heterosexist! I mean provisioning theory as explanation for bipedalism is what you said plus saying males had to have hands free to carry stuff back to shelter for weak female and offspring. As an explanation for bipedalism, a massive restructuring of bodily form.

Agree that it's heterosexist! It's used to explain SO MANY things, and ALWAYS to put women down in the present!

Musk retweets these people a lot, so that really tells me all I need to know about it - and because we're past the point where one can let such a statement stand without clarification: these people are atrocious scum that needs to be laughed out of every room.

Evo psych and evo Anth are NOT the same. Evo Anths can’t stand evo psych, because evo psych’s core problem is a poor understanding of evolutionary theory. A straight up sex contract model of gender roles has not been mainstream teaching in anthropology for like at least 2 decades.

Sarah Blaffer Hrdy and other feminist bioanths put the nail in that coffin, but the version of evolution that evo Psychs seem to have has never really been how actual evolutionary scientists think. Most notably evo psych suffers from appeals to nature fallacy, bio determinism, and ethnocentrism.

I can only point to my department where the evo anth people (at least some of them) happily collaborate and do bad work. I am distinguishing between bio anth and evo anth, etx.

Idk where your department is, but evolutionary anthropology is a subfield of biological anthropology, but in my 16 years in this field I have rarely heard the term used. People tend to be specific, ie “I study evolutionary medicine” or “paleoarchaeology.”

In my 18 years in anthropology I have encountered both. And in my department the subfield is *explicitly* named evolutionary anthropology & the people explicitly etc. Whereas at LSU where I got my MA & was a four-field program, it was Bio Anth & they weren’t eugenicists.

I think your dept is an outlier. At least in the U.S.
