TBF why would you? Councils have virtually no power and are basically just carrying out statutory duties these days with little ability to do anything.

Tomorrow's MP is today's local councillor. If you don't help them build a power base, you're leaving selection (and hence policy decisions) entirely to the party. Which is part of why modern Westminster is so broken.

Well, someone is responsible for child/adult social care and roads. Seems important enough for me to vote. But to each their own.

But they really only have the budget for social care and keeping the lights on. Everything else is all but switched off. What will Reform do when they realise they will not realistically be able to do anything different? What will their voters do?

Apathy kills democracy. I’d encourage people to do their research, accept the compromise at each part of government and party offers & make their decisions. I would have more respect for someone who voted xxx for whatever stated reason than someone who couldn’t be bothered to vote- no vote no voice.

Carrying out statutory duties has a lot of power. Who gets the contracts? Who gets the jobs? The budget for children’s art is £1,000: is it spent wisely on things that will bring joy for years or blown on something useless? Councils are how communities are made. Vote for a good one.
