I remember when Muppets Most Wanted was released in theaters, audiences and critics agreed that it was good, but not as good as the 2011 film. Now in 2025, people are now praising Most Wanted for being incredibly ahead of its time for lampooning the culture of sequels as well as being entertaining.
AniMat's review from when the film came out is a perfect example of how this film's reputation has changed a lot. I think the reason is like you said, it's ahead of its time, and now that it's a decade later, we can see its vision and appreciate it a lot more than in 2014.
Oh yes, back then disney had the staying power when it came to story telling.
Fun fact: Steve Whitmire who performed Kermit, rizzo, and many others actually prefers most wanted over the 2011 film. Not that he thinks the 2011 movie is bad. He told me he liked it, but he just thought most wanted was better.

Even Muppets in Space was just alright. The Muppets are just that property Sad Disney doesn't give it the time of day
