Dude called these encampments open-air "drug dens," an eyesore, and a danger to the community. And it's being treated like an objective, rational, fair perspective to expect these people who have nothing to "disperse" into "individual spaces that are less of an eyesore."

“Look, why don’t we just disappear them so we can have shopping districts. I’m a good person.”

The comment says, VERBATIM, "...it becomes a real problem because once a tent city is established, less regular folk go to the area, which leads to more homeless, which leads to less regular folk, which leads to business leaving." Notice how he said "regular folk" but just "homeless."

I had to stop reading my city's subreddit because of this rampant lack of empathy/humanity. It was starting to break my brain.

Some subreddits are great. Some are a portal into hell.

They don't see homeless people as human beings with the same needs and feelings as them. A shocking amount of Americans view homeless people this way.

If only we treated billionaires with that kind of disdain instead. I mean, some of us do, but not nearly enough imo. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The casual vitriol with which we talk about people with nowhere to go is astounding. Like they're an inconvenience to our collective comfort when they're probably going through the worst time of their lives. How inconvenient. Never once does this dude mention housing these people. Just "disperse."

It’s truly so sad that people don’t understand that unhoused people are still people. I’ve lived in close proximity to two large encampments and everyone has been very nice. I’ve never had a problem.

I wish I'd done more when I lived in New York. I was pretty awkward and didn't know how to talk to people, but when I did, unhoused people were always very nice. And even if they weren't nice, it's literally just people we're talking about. This is a vile way to talk about them regardless.
