Car dependency is a systemic problem. But individual choices to get small EVs would collectively weaken at least three of the main special interests pushing car dependency (manufacturers, local car dealers, fossil fuels).

We are constantly advertised to & told we need a car that exudes sexual prowress, that dominate our environment, hauls our boat all while winning a grand prix, and being able to take jimmy & his entire soccer team our for ice cream after the big game.

We would personally and societally be better served with more and better public transportation, and smaller vehicles for the commutes we actually do, and rent a bigger vehicle for the few times you actually need one on average vs the one machine to do it all.
