Hey ABC - can we stop calling them "settlers", which sounds like a benign homesteading movement. As Israeli human rights groups themselves say, those Israelis trying to displace Palestinians in the #WestBank are terrorists: state-sanctioned terrorists. #StopIsrael www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08...

"Invaders" is the term which should have been being used since the UN declared their occupation illegal. Now there are some more choice words I'd tend to use...

Have there ever been settlers forming a colony anywhere who are not intent on displacing the indigenous population? Yes, maybe those who first found New Zealand some 1200 years ago. Since then settlers have always carried the potential for ethnic/linguistic/cultural displacement, or genocide.

A couple of decades ago I noticed the word "colonists" was used in French news media instead of "settlers". The word "settler" is intended to make US Americans think they are settling unsettled "empty" spaces like the US Wild West. The Levant has been settled for tens of thousands of years already!

Ask any Indigenous group globally settlers have never been benign homesteaders. Only colonial descendents would give them that description.
