Welcome to Massachusetts? The town of Marlborough MA is just down the road from where I work. Interestingly enough, there is also a town called New Marlborough in this state as well, but that's nowhere near Marlborough.

In the posher areas of Wiltshire it's pronounced 'Mawl-bro', by the way. It helps with the social X-ray whenever somebody opens their mouth.

Hope it's the latter. I've been reading John Banville's Quirke series set in the '50s and there's mention of someone lighting up on every page. It was ubiquitous. And my parents, oy.
