My bewilderment is why has it taken so long. The week they took power it was obvious that the aim was full crash n burn of the country, by sacking the workers in bulk, and killing all the good plans of Labour, with nothing in its place

A chunk of their support is from those who benefited from the various rollbacks (property investors, farmers, etc). In addition you have the wannabes - those who aspire to be rich and are privileged enough to have good prospects.

Finally you have those who want to be relatively better off than others. They will support anything that makes the gap between them and others below them bigger, even if it hurts themselves. None of these groups will completely disappear even as the economy gets ravaged by this CoC.
