I would even argue that it’s the gun cult more than the guns because lots of other countries have as many guns/capita without the violence that the US has I grew up with guns in the house (dad was a hunter, bears in the neighbourhood) I knew how to shoot but guns we’re a tool, not a sex symbol

My dad was trained as a sniper. He teached me to handle guns, security measures & shoot straight when I was 11 yo. He was never in love with a gun, didn't hunt, but liked target shooting. My rifle (registered) is one of his. No gun cult.

My dad used to take us target shooting all the time. If you’re ever attacked by a “rabid Pepsi can”, I’m your girl 🤣 but I couldn’t shoot anything living Until I had kids, I had my grandfather’s gun for target practice I gave it back to my dad (who had it altered for safe displaying at his cottage)*

I never shot a animal either. Target shooting only. My dad tested my accuracy using tiny children aspirine bottles, Pepsi cans would have been too big as targets. 😅

I used to shoot the hole out of the letters Pp in the label The first time my husband saw me do it, he told me he would have to be much nicer to me in the future 🤣 Now, I’m probably too blind to hit the can🙄

My mom didn't appreciate her daughter being taught firearm handling, prob. not girlie enough. So, one day, I shot the stem of a flower, to give the flower to my mom. 😂

*I’m not sure what he had done but it will never fire again unless it’s taken to a gunsmith and the parts are put back into it. It’s all been saved but not stored with the guns. They’re not even in the same part of the province

He must have removed the "culasse". (sorry, don't know English word for it). A gun can't fire without it & my dad always stored those apart from rifles.

I’m pretty sure that’s the mechanism around the firing pin. He had to do a few things to be able to display them legally. They’re more for sentimental value than anything else. The last time I fired my grandfather’s gun, I told my dad I wouldn’t use it again. It felt “wobbly and unsafe” to me

The firing pin is part of the "culasse". My rifle gets oiled once in a while, with trigger lock on. Mostly a sentimental value to keep it.

no other country has even close to the number of guns/capita that the US has. Just looked it up on Wikipedia. US leads the way with 120 guns/100 people, the Falkland Islands are next at 62 guns/100 people. The rate only goes down from there. Guns don't kill people, people WITH guns kill people.

Lots of Canadians have guns (not the same levels as the US) but blaming it solely on the guns without addressing the gun culture would also not solve the problem Then the “gun worshippers” would be able to make the argument that the guns aren’t the problem Both need to be addressed equally

not arguing with you on that, the gun culture/mistaken belief that the 2nd Amendment gives almost anyone access to almost any weapon they choose has led to this insane proliferation of deadly weapons in the hands of people who have no conceivable need of them.

The 2nd Amendment was never meant for civilians to own a sh*tload of assault weapons. It was adopted when guns were 1 shot & in case of an attack from the British colony to the North (Canada), since US - then a young republic - had no army. There was thus a need for a regulated militia to be called.

Well in my foggy memory that the great hunters used bow and arrow for getting their food supply and didn’t have Costco when unsuccessful. These days great white hunters need cannons and still use Costco for their needs. So do I have that picture right?

“If you need more than one bullet to hunt, then you’re not a very good hunter”- my dad As for me, I never shot anything more dangerous than a Pepsi can … but I knew how to use a gun because we had bears … in fact, there was one in the yard last week Now we have car alarms which will scare bears off

Can’t agree with you more. I have many hunter friends but most use a bow. They very into hunter training and 2 were snipers in the Canadian military. So all this gun BS are just a bunch of wanna be’s pretending to be a somebody

So a good friend of mine grew up dirt poor in Ontario and had a single shot 22. Now if he did not shoot something they didn’t eat. I wonder how many great white hunters could say the same? And somehow an AR-15 would just leave rabbit fur to eat. Fuck heads
