I hope in his last moments of consciousness before he dies he thinks about how "successful" his life has been and how great it was that he never took time to think about something other than his business.

I say this all the time. Married to your job means you die, just as we all do, though you die alone and unloved. No one will remember you because you mattered to precisely no one. Loved by no other human being, your name is replaced by the next superficial fool, not living an actual fulfilled life.
