Monday again? That means it’s time to present another nice urban architecture find, today from the lovely city of Bydgoszcz, Poland. This one was hiding in plain sight on the Rynek, the Market Square. #ManholeCoverMonday

A round fibrelite composite manhole cover set into the paving slabs of the central market square in Bydgoszcz. The cover is an unusual beige colour with a criss-cross raised design and a smaller central opening that has a handle and ‘pry point’ written on it. In the background are pastel-coloured tenement buildings, many of which have dormer windows in the roofs and pavement cafes in front of them.

Indeed - went there after dinner then headed to the ‘pour your own’ multitap at the top end of Długa on Wełniany Rynek (Woolmarket sounds more familiar, doesn’t it?! Reminds me - must look into all the market types here - is there a Haymarket, I wonder?). Of course that evening ended far too late!

I remember Wełniany Rynek, and the barszcz restaurant nearby.. and the Magiczne schody😀 Need to find out why they are so called. Did you stop for beer at the urban beach? Loads of screaming parties when overhead. Definitely plan to visit Byd again.

AFAIK the Magiczne Schody are just a tourist attraction - they used to just go down to the tea shop but since they built that bridge over the Brda as a route to the Wyspa Młyńska the stairs have had a new lease of life as a great shortcut! Didn’t go to the beach as was with the in-laws!
