Texan here. Democrats who do not vote are complicit with this, and there are a lot of registered voters for whatever reason do not make it a priority to vote. This is part of my problem and my son (who does not vote) says "It won't make a difference" GOP count on this. every person must vote.

Gerrymandering this hard can come back and bite you, quickly. It just takes a slight change in the voters for it to fall apart.

"Slight change" ... how so?

When you gerrymander to the max it can often rely on only a few voters, sometimes < 100. Demographics change, people pass, people don't vote. Then you have to spend money and run better candidates to win the seat. It is easier now with the data we collect, but not foolproof.

Also by disenfranchising so many people you encourage people not to vote. They run candidates that don't listen to their constituents. The right candidate can walk in and motivate voters to their side. Then you risk up ballot elections too. It just takes time, which the GOP is counting on.

Your not talking about a slight change, you describe a maxing out. Candidates don't change en masse immediately, they have to be elected. As Jasmine Crockett quipped, & I am paraphrasing, I will find myself in a district.

California gerrymandering will be asking voters to approve in a special election. So citizens have a vested interest in the decision.

Also, most voters don't have a clue what gerrymandering is & what district they are in. Their home is not physically moving.

No, but they move. People die. If you base your gerrymandering on such thin lines it does not take much to flip a district. We saw it all the time in Michigan. Also, it only takes some, of the voters to not vote because they don't feel represented.

I don't feel like arguing over this, so I will try to explain again and leave it as is. As I said above extreme gerrymandering relies on slim margins. Demographic changes that happen over time can impact them quickly because we are only talking about such a small number of voters. That is it.

I guess we will have to see how the Californians construct their version of gerrymandering via the special election. Some maps are coming out now.

FL is already gerrymandered to hell and back. It’s how they got to the current GOP supermajority in their state legislature. I’m not sure how much more they can gerrymander that state without putting current GOP-held districts at risk.

He said white Texans would get a district of 445k people. A Black district would need 2 million for the same representation. He divided 2 million by (rounded) 500k = 20% or 1/5.

They know Hispanics are more likely to vote for trump so throw them a bone, that a lot of them will except, and let them be worth more than Black people because we have practically no chance with them.

Well, Texas has more African Americans than any other state, approximately 3.6 million & approximately 11 million latin or hispanic Americans live in Texas. Republicans have drawn the lines in ways to make their votes are diluted & move portions to majority white districts.
