The primary reason a university gets a patent is to continue research. It's illegal (w/o permission) to do research of a patented process. I've done research and part of our IP training included what we could/could not do. The patentholder can license whoever wants to use their patent w/wo fee.

The biggest mistake these morons make, is looking at the society as a business -- just like Trumpty Dumbty. Universities' primary function is to provide higher education that benefits the society and do research in order to discover, create new science that benefits the society. That's all. Period.

We get access to the technology, not "nothing." 🙄 The problem here is the costs to consumers are too high. That's manufacturing and retailer profits, not just patent costs. If we fund the research as taxpayers, then we should get full benefits from related patents for our lifetimes. Reduced costs.
