Hudson River transit story: a friend of ACT Social Media team was on a submarine headed to Albany for Navy Day. The sub captain, a USNA grad, submerged the sub to avoid rendering honors to West Point, which overlooks the Hudson from the West side. The Hudson is deep!
I can't prove this didn't happen, but I think someone's pulling your leg. It's ~200' deep at Constitution Island, but it's only 60-70 just north and south of there, and the currents are really squirrelly. (I rowed at USMA.)
