I've seen L.A. bus drivers refuse to let people who smell really bad or are super drunk on buses. Apparently THAT is fine.

Make calls to your elected reps! He needs legal rep such as aclu and/or an employment attorney. Not a lawyer but that is what I feel may be the way to go.

I've visited LA on a few occasions and always used the transit system extensively. As a Canadian, I would feel safer knowing that all transit employees were as committed and diligent as your cousin Sean -- there has been extensive media coverage up here about Canadians scooped up by ICE.
I've heard many people saying that they are reluctant to visit the US for conferences, events like the Olympics, and seeing family and friends -- and if they feel public employees are encouraging ICE to operate like this, that would definitely make them hesitate.

Sean and I are both enormous beneficiaries of the Transit Workers Union, to which our immigrant grandfather belonged. Now, though, for the crime of saying he will not let masked, unidentified armed men into his bus, and for calling for Metro to stand up to this rampage, he has lost his job.

Metro doesn't want to draw Trump & DHS's ire, in the misguided notion they can, so their solution is to retaliate against workers actually trying to protect riders from his secret police. They think firing drivers who speak out will help them navigate Trump's Olympics. The cost is abducted Angelenos
Metro should follow the Trump administration and completely lie about it. They can tell “them” he was fired, give him 2 weeks paid leave and then go right back to it, when everyone (who might care) has already forgotten, because they moved on to the next “outrage-of-the-day”…
Another thing: Sean's idea that Metro should divert buses away from/around ICE sweeps using their already existing dispatch system, which routinely does this already for other disruptions & safety issues, should absolutely be Metro policy.
