Scary thought: Two labs in the world have samples of the smallpox virus for research purposes. One of them is the CDC.

they also have the recreated 1918 pandemic virus, they have stockpiled viruses for research
Keeps me awake sometimes.
Try living near Fort Detrick, MD 🦠 🚨 now that captain cankles and McBrainworm hold the keys to the castle of infectious diseases…
That would be concerning
Especially as the last death from smallpox was a medical photographer in a lab that still had samples being infected.
Yeah can totally picture RFK doing some dumb shit with a lab sample. Or that fucking ghoul Miller intentionally infecting a detention center. That fuck would 100% infect detainees then deport them just to kill black and brown folks wherever he sent them
On the scale of things I worry about smallpox is above the collapse of AMOC but slightly below prehistoric virus’s from melted tundra which I guess could also be smallpox
Those prehistoric viruses buried under a frozen and now melting tundra should be a fear. Modern humans have no protection against what will arise and spread. But the release of trillions of tons of methane will kill us before those newly released invincible viruses.
Hard to say. But yeah cooked either way.
Those things aren’t controlled by a Lex Luthor-style evil insane “genius” bent on destroying America. Kennedy is a comic book villain, but he has access to real & deadly toys.
Yeah but we can shoot Bobby you can’t hang the AMOC.
There’s that. Not sure. That sewer water might make him bulletproof.
Hahah he’s leathery not bulletproof lol.
Have you factored the measurable tilting shift of our axis due to the collective cumulative weight of dammed rivers in recent years? I’m thinking it’s a pebble in all our shoes, the pea under our mattresses. Not noticeable but “off”. Like lighting on a Twilight Zone set. Normal but not. It’s possible
Actually when it comes to shifting the earths balance around this is bigger than dams also earthquakes and a negative feedback loop www.livescience.com/planet-earth...
And we’re overdue for the magnetic poles to flip…
And let’s not forget Carrington events.
Actually, it might save us all if it knocked down the power feeds to data centers & servers. The powers that Be depend 100% on digital information & comms. If Carrington can find the time, it’d be a good will gesture to humanity. Shut them off completely. It’d be awful but beats serfdom under Thiel.
It’s been a stormy year on the sun.
This is the way to go.

It’s nobody bringing up the super caldera?
Oh yeah!! Yellowstone bomb could happen anytime. Another good one is the New Madrid fault!
I hadn’t heard about that one! But I’ve been watching “Life On Our Planet” which has done a pretty good job of showing mass extinction events involving eruptions. Was surprisingly emotional watching the episode when the asteroid hits
Meet the monster that made the Mississippi run south to north en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1811%E2...
That’s such a wildcard it’s hard to wrap your head around it. Cosmic rays, solar wind, ozone holes not to mention what it’ll do to navigation probably fuck computers up in novel ways too
The supervolcano in Yellowstone should be higher, too. I remember it being like a 1 in 750,000 chance for a caldera event in a given year. That's like 500x more likely than winning the powerball.
👍🏻
The plague or any flesh-eating bacteria are what randomly worry me. It is all bad though. Pretty sure I will die by tripping over a dog before I've had my morning coffee (if the bacteria does not find me first).
Yeah the brain eating amoebas are a thing here. But I’ll probably get hit by a lifted F350
I just airdropped into this comment section and, whoa. Without a whole lot of context it’s wild. (I suspect it might be wild even with a lot of context.)
Things that go bump in your brain. Low probability high risk events that kind of thing lol www.livescience.com/planet-earth...
Yeah, sometimes I stay up late and read about the previous five mass extinction events and it turns out that massive, unexpected volcanic activity isn’t particularly out of the question just because it’s “now” and it hasn’t happened recently. Helps keep things in perspective, sort of.
I’ve been here for a long time. In high school I was in an org that wargamed disaster. Like model UN with a body count (usually astronomical even when you “succeed”) so limited nuclear war, volcanic winter, massive solar flare and the more prosaic hurricanes dam failure pandemic
That was the 80s though so we just keep adding them. Ironically I first heard about the greenhouse effect because someone suggested it as an antidote to nuclear winter.
Yeah, I remember that” theory”. I’m the same era but my high school was neither together enough or progressive enough to have apocalypse war game orgs. I was left to my own devices and sci fi. We did do under-the-desk drills in grade school, though.
...with a set of low-hanging golden trump-branded truck nuts swinging from the rear, no doubt.
Ever see the series Fortitude?
Do they have exploding methane bubbles in the ground because video of one of those shits fucked me up
No. But it's about the thing you described. Stanly Tucci is it.
I’ll check it out
Just wait until brain worm decides to use it as a "cure".
Correct. And scary as fuck.
I’m native we should have kept some
That you know of. Two labs ADMIT to having it.
