that's just how they're pronounced in america. english just inconsistently anglicizes "-stein". epstein barr virus is also pronounced epsteen

genuinely pisses me off when people don't take the like 10 seconds it takes to learn pronunciations for topics they're supposed to be "experts" on, especially for people's names
