Trying to coach a new designer through a catalog layout, and it's just so hard. The white space, the flow of information on the page, which fonts NOT to use-- I'm struggling to articulate this in a way that he can go in and fix, rather than do what I want to do: just blow it up and do it myself 😅
I forbade my students to use papyrus.
Tough but fair. I argue that every font has its place, but this isn't a yoga studio.

It's a sketch. Skits are akin to improv, like boy scouts around a camp fire. Sketches are written, edited, rehearsed, probably edited again, rehearsed, memorized and acted live.
Sometimes they just have to learn on their own. 🙃

I work in GIS so I make maps. I really wish they would corner people before they started and show them a series of maps and have them tell you which ones are good or not even if they cannot explain why. If you don't innately know some of the aesthetic concepts go do something else.
Perhaps he is unaware of the basics: your job is to communicate information first, not make it look pretty. Better double check he knows the "no Comic Sans, ever" rule. Just to be safe. Good luck.
