CA would have plenty of money for it, if they just withheld it from going to Red States via the federal government . A soft secession (purely monetary) wouldn’t be unconstitutional.

The Congress has the right to levy taxes. There is no constitutional mechanism for anyone to stop paying federal taxes (outside of the loopholes that rich folks get).
Californias a rich state…maybe it’s time to step into those loopholes.
That’s not how that works. Every *person* individually is responsible for their federal taxes. It’s not a state matter at all. The state isn’t involved. It would have to be a protest by the people. Which could happen, but is illegal nonetheless and not a responsibility of the state.
State Controller or whatever body is responsible could stop transferring Federal tax dollars from State employee paychecks. Other CA based businesses could also join in. While it’s “illegal” to do, the whole point is fighting back against the lawlessness of the Trump regime.
Unfortunately to win this we *have* to play legally, because they are. Some of their actions are legal by the way of the Supreme Court and Congress. And some of their actions are illegal, which get shot down where they can. And all are immoral. But let’s not get these confused. It’s what they want.
We are in essentially a cold civil war, a staring contest to see who blinks first. And the more we advocate doing something *illegal* (even if moral), that gives them the political capital to shut us down.
Despite Trump not having as much power as he wants, they still have all of the power available to them.
