Enterprise, given the theme of Star Trek is supposed to be progress, needs to be "behind" the series that take place "after" it. That's an occupational hazard of writing prequels, and could have been fine, but yeah they didn't do *nearly* enough to communicate "this won't fly come Century 23"

A better version of the show could have kept roughly the same Captain Archer, but make T'Pol or some other character a moral authority to critique and sometimes condemn him on behalf of the audience.

But that version of Archer still wouldn't be fit for a reprising role, given his place in that version of the story as an intentionally negative moral example.

Still, if there were a version of Enterprise where Archer gets court-martialed, and loses, for the things he does, I'd watch the hell out of it.
