#Repugnicans: *crickets*
We @religiondispatches.org sincerely doubt that Trump has read, much less understood, any Shakespeare. But nominally refusing the crown to elicit more public support for authoritarian rule is definitely giving Julius Caesar.
Trump doesn’t even know who Shakespeare or Julius Caesar is.
“A lot of people are saying ‘maybe we’d like a dictator’” feels a test balloon—or maybe just Trump’s way of telling America she’s asking for it. We eagerly await Fox’s forthcoming segment on why it would be good for America to have a dictator, actually.
They HAVE a dictator.
