I know it's not the most pressing concern but surely someone can knock a fix for that out in an afternoon and then move onto the more important stuff

Oh, I learned this fix online! When the ringing sound starts, cover your ear with one hand, and tap against it a few times, until the noise subsides My tinnitus lasts for a few minutes, but after using this method a few times, I can deal with it

Alas, I've tried this and it doesn't work for me. The sound is constant for me, it doesn't start or stop
