Cabot's Tern was split by the same research results that split West African Crested Tern, which is retained split. Why the different treatment? Appears to be due to 'non-avian dinosaurs' at the AOU not liking the English name change, rather than sound science? It must surely be resplit, very soon...
My opinion is that a few people wanting make a mark by messing with things that don't really need any messing with🤷♂️
