Frank: What the hell did you trade Jay Buhner for?!? He had 30 home runs, and over 100 RBIs last year. He’s got a rocket for an arm. You don’t know what the hell you’re doin’! Steinbrenner: Well, Buhner was a good prospect, no question about it. But my baseball people loved Ken Phelps’ bat. They kept saying “Ken Phelps, Ken Phelps.”

Dammit I'm so jealous. Ken Phelps is an all time Seattle guy, went to Ingraham High (I briefly went there, fuck that joint), played all of his best ball for the M's, then immediately got traded for Jay Buhner. Chef's kiss.

Still thinking about how someone bought an action figure of Ken Phelps, stored that awkwardly shaped box in near-mint condition for 37 years, and then gave up and handed it to a thrift store. So much of our life's work dissipates into thin air

what a waste. if it was me I would have bought a Brian Holman one, opened both, and relived Phelps breaking up Holman’s perfect game over and over again

My best guess is the person died and their next of didn't know what they had.
