I never heard of him. But heard of book🤷♀️I've listened to Ann Applebaum, Ruth Ben Ghait the ones on all the podcasts, and I've never heard someone say yeah our kids aren't really into democracy.That's scary but understandable. I think most of the US still doesn't think it can happen.
Yes, I've listened to both of them on pods; excellent analysis. This particular take by MacWilliams I hadn't heard before and it makes a lot of sense because of how it crosses all demos. His take on successive gens' views/attraction to authoritarianism is dark. But important if we are to resist.
We've failed young people in a lot of ways. But how do we compete with TPUSA, Curtis Yarvin, and a hundred other right wing influencers? Young people didn't vote for Trump in 2016 but the far right has had 9 years to work on them
The right wing has been working on supporting bloggers, now known as influencers, that have morphed into podcasters for years. The left hasn't done that. From the mid-2000s until now it's been a deficit on the left. That and thinking the press would ever be fair...& ignoring Fox News's impact.
He's changed a lot since then. But we can't take to everyone individually. We need a strong voice
And the right has no answers other than hate. My son used to send me podcasts of Yarvin and others. They say big words quote philosophers and say nothing.Painful to listen to. I would ask him, what are their ideas? How do they plan to fix things? Also show me a country where authoritarianism worked?
