What do D.C. residents think would reduce crime? Most say boosting opportunity in poor areas, stricter national gun laws, increasing D.C. police patrols and violence interruption strategies would do so. 46% say increasing punishments for teens, 14% permanent fed control of the police wapo.st/45EHfZQ

Trump's police takeover appears to have boosted support for D.C. statehood, which reached a record high in our Post-Schar School poll wapo.st/45EHfZQ

Seems like D.C. statehood would require something other than the most pathetic, incompetent, reactionary, lazy, useless, inconsequential party possible opposing the Republicans. In other words, how does this happen when that opposition party is the Democrats?

Why does DC need to be a State vs handing the land back to Maryland?

Because we’re literally our own entity and culture & the boundaries have existed for a long time. Why in the world does “handing land back to Maryland” make any more sense than just creating another state officially, that already governs itself (mayor) but would just have appropriate representation?

Just because a new state hasn’t been added in some time doesn’t mean it shouldn’t happen And your example logically makes less sense than allowing the space that exists - that isn’t federal land - to just be its own state. 700,000 people

Maryland suddenly taking over DC would mean DC residents still would lose appropriate representation. MD doesn’t have any plans in place for the 700,000 of us that live here and all the associated infrastructure and complexities The people in DC who already exist in planning and suppprtong

DC needs and requirements. There is SO much more complexity behind governing and making decisions for an area with hundreds of thousands of people. Handling LAND over to a state doesn’t make those complex things go away

We in DC want APPROPRIATE VOTING REPRESENTATION SO THAT WE ARE HEARD AND SEEN. suddenly having another state be in charge of us just means the SUPPORT for our basic needs and representation would have issues in other ways

It makes sense to think about allowing a state to be in charge of new land or something if that suddenly was added on and that’s it, but DC already has government and infrastructure and more We want to be a state so we have REPRESENTATION from our VOTES….

I live in a full-on MAGA state. I certainly know what it's like to have "taxation without representation." DC statehood should be a priority for everyone.
