this is a good example of how badly the far right is cooking its brains in the twitter swamps, they're all out there convinced that the country is ready to reinstitute slavery and have no conception that thermostatic backlash goes both ways

Imagine this is 1925 with 1925 attitudes (For some people it is) Now imagine waiting 40 years for substantial change
The kids are already bugging me about getting the My Lil Race Scientist starter kit. Calipers not included.
You might call it the anti-woke-mind-virus
You can say something as kindly as possible and they will still just hear “screaming.”
All I hear when I hear affirmative action and DEI is some whiny white man.
Why tf is anyone with a sense of decency still contributing in any way to that cesspool?
is this a safe space to say IDK what “thermostatic backlash” means in this context?
It means public opinion will swing hard against them if they keep saying and doing shit like this
right that’d be the backlash but is thermostatic meant like… homeostatic? I haven’t heard that term before but can see it gets used in posts here quite a bit
I'd say so? Basically if you push too hard one way, public opinion swings the other way - it's why the party in power tends to do poorly in midterms
ah never mind googled it! “Thermostatic politics” www.alexnowrasteh.com/p/behold-the...
These guys are not ready for the American cultural revolution. China tried to warn them with that scene in 3 body problem, but they didn't get it.
I've been dooming out that democratic elections are over in America. My theory is that Republican bills are so bad that they act like public opinion doesn't matter anymore, that the will of the voters doesn't matter. But like...... could they truly believe that their ideas are popular?
The bit that always confuses me is what the GOP thinks happens after Trump. They don’t seem to have considered that at all
they don't really have one. he captured the whole party in a personality cult.
Right. What happens to the cult after the personality is gone.
Jonestown 2 at Mar a Lago?
IMO that all depends on if fascism wins. If it does there will not be any type of public backlash for that type of thinking because it will be met with the full force of government. Unless we’re talking about a 10-25 year timeline.
The best way to understand fascism is to look at fascist regimes that were not conquered externally. Often, they'll go back to being liberal. You know, once some purges have been done, especially of labor leaders and anyone who could threaten capital.
The “(most of the country is)” thing really baffles me. They really are convinced that the protests have not been massive, and that the backlash , already has not been massive. They’re really living in a curated world to think they are the majority
At least as of last year, it’s actually true. Should emphasize that they’re talking about affirmative action specifically, not any other topics in the progressive camp www.politico.com/news/2024/01...
Hmm, interesting. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised….
Fascinating how the people shrieking about being master race people with high IQs tend to be weaklings too dim to realize they're being grifted.
Woke 2, fuck the Boogaloos.
Ironically, there is nothing on Earth that will more quickly convince me a person lacks intelligence than insisting that IQ is an important, meaningful, or objective metric.
Also, standardized test scores
Holy fuck. If ever there was a succinct argument to ghost twitter, "racism is normal there" would be it.
I mean, they aren't wrong in that those in control of the federal government do want to bring back slavery
Thermostatic backlash seems to be the word of the day. I need to look into this.
Same. I like it too much and I dread seeing my fellow normies (and probably myself) beat it into the ground by Labor Day.
If the ideological composition of the country were what they're assuming, Target stock would be at all time highs and Costco would be cutting executive pay. Huh. WaPo, how's it going for ya? Oh, wow. That's a big drop. Damn. Money talks. These guys make fart noises and wait for accolades on Xtwit.
Best thing about Twitter atm is the racists and far right freaks keep asking Grok for validation and it slaps them down.
Bad news about that today
They have been like this a while. A few years ago I got the one using the BMO avatar to melt down at me about how "my words have no power anymore" as if I was trying to have him cancelled over calling him a bigot or whatever. It was disorienting in how earnest his framing came off.
But micah the Atlantic told me that bsky is the echo chamber?
the best thing we could do with what's left of twitter at this point is shut it down, it's way too far gone
We've shutted some website for terrorist content with far less warning... *Stares in FBI seized this website for violation of federal status 13.32*
I keep expecting to hear that it's caught on fire, given with how badly they've stripped it to the bone and are clearly under-maintaining it...
I mean there were some times recently where the servers were entirely down, so they definitely aren't in good shape overall.
From what I'm hearing, I'm surprised we haven't had the Xitter equivalent of that huge train crash... the one that nearly wiped out a town - what was its name, again?
I humbly suggest crossposting every blue check post to their family group chats, then shut it down.
We'll need it as evidence of intent later.
"Sam's List" a federal and regional feed for emergency services, journalists and electeds. No bullshit, 100% verified. Comments only. It would cost virtually nothing.
Let’s shutdown Facebook too while we are at it
Ghost dance?
can we shut it down but keep the ones left there THERE, like locked inside, and just leave it so they don't go elsewhere or get new folks in?
Could just set up a bunch of bots for them to argue with. Forever.
at least stop dragging its content to other platforms.
Everyone still on Twitter are getting their brains cooked.
Honestly I think you need it like 4chan needed /b/, as a containment board for all the worst pieces of shit so they don’t migrate outwards and ruin places free of them
That's the thing, you absolutely destroy it and then a large portion of people can't be arsed to find the new, underground thing. Keep smashing their rocks until only a few can congregate under tiny pebbles.
Tiny pebbles like Truth Social, the social media platform run by and for the president of the US? There's no way he's ever going to give up such an ego stroking mass of toxicity.
My big concern is the number of big journalists and elected Democrats who continue to post and browse there because "Bluesky is toxic." They're unknowingly getting their own worldviews shifted and convinced that the median groyper is representative of the electorate.
That said, it'd be a good idea if Bsky leftists stopped sending threats - credible or otherwise - to those folks every time they post an awful take. I remember a time when you simply told someone they're wrong and moved on, or blocked.
Block and mute are far more effective than trying to engage bad actors in any way. Without feedback, both negative and positive, they soon get bored and head back to Xitter and Truth Social where the audiences are far more eager to give them the attention they crave.
I want the next person to run on New Deal 2.0 so strong that FDR rotates in his grave to provide us with clean, natural energy for the rest of time. I'm going to keep going to help push that, I feel like this is where we are headed.
The aspect of this that I find amazing is the GOP just absolutely jettisoning any apparent concern about "small government" in the "leave me the fuck alone" sense. "We're going to meddle in everything, including checking the genitals of your children, and we shall be greeted as liberators."
And they never want to talk about how IQ tests don’t actually measure intellect
they forget they're hiding
