Coldplay is definitely on the list too but 'controversial' music I'll go to bat for is for sure Taylor Swift. Plenty of her catalog is not-great, but she has some legitimately good songs that I enjoy. billionaire, private plane, and bad politics (albeit by association) are all still shitty though.
I recall being mocked for liking millennial pop-punk, emo, and ska when it was contemporary. Getting older just means a whole new generation gets to mock me, and point out that the music is dated.

Drops of Jupiter is pretty much the apex peak of its specific genre/era by a mile. Most people who don't like it prob just got sick of hearing it all the time when it hit big, which is fair, but if you haven't heard it in years you'll probably go "oh damn this takes me back" when it comes up again!
Same. Keep my musical tastes fiercely independant, and always willing yo obnoxiously force my musical taste on other people in my car, flat, classroom, wherever people are trapped and cannot leave 😂

We are very close in age 🙂 My iTunes is full of a *lot* of ‘80s albums and tracks I’ve bought (no streaming for me!), from Adam Ant to The Police to Duran Duran to Eurythmics & on. I recently added “Take On Me”, “Safety Dance” and “Kyrie Eleison” to fill out my party mix.😁 No apologies. 😎✊🏻
