This lawsuit is how I discovered that Dow Jones is a publishing company. I don’t know where I thought the Dow was or where it came from, but it was not this.

Nvm, I thought DOW INC. and Dow Jones were a single company. I had this problem with Jimmy Buffett and Warren Buffett before, and was really confused how someone made so much money on just Margaritavilles.

He couldn't care less about a paper's cred - check The Times. He is only interested in his personal agenda, which aligns closely with Trump's. It is possible he prefers Vance and will go for regime change.

He cares about this paper's cred specifically, because you can't do financial reporting without it. The WSJ is Murdoch's only outlet that turns a profit primarily from subscriptions, not ads

His retention of newspapers likely reflects nostalgia for the good old days. Most profits are from other businesses and he retains loss making newspapers for cred and power. Anyway we will see - the outlet to watch would be Fox news I guess.

I think they probably drop a follow-up story with images of the letter and then try and get HIM to back off, and then they both seem to ease off for a bit while each party tries to find a quiet offramp that won't result in headlines how one completely surrendered to the other (spoiler: impossible)

I see 3 outcomes here : 1) the Murdochs bend the knee and ask the Don's forgiveness with loads of cash, 2) they soldier on and the Don drops the lawsuit Taco Style citing bigger concern to deal with, 3) they all soldier on, the letter is proven to be real and the Don cries foul play.

Murdoch will have an absolute mountain of dirt on Trump. Its not like Trump has been subtle or restrained in a lifetime of personal indulgence. If Murdoch wants to use it, he can, and will.
