Im gonna say a strong taek here: more men need to recognize the ability of Chad Bradford,, BEYOND having a great baseball name
I think they do, they're just coming at it from a different direction.
I’m just here to say Sid Monge. Thank you
Got real fond memories of Koji Euhara
Eric Gagne
youtu.be/nKzobTlF8fM?...
the other day I was just remembering Jonathan Papelbon
🤢🤮
I am so sorry that you did that. I called him Papelpoopy and it kills me he has the most all-time saves for the Phillies.
I only really know him from when he was with the Red Sox, where he was pretty much just a great closer.
The Phillies weren't a good team when he was here, but he still pitched well. It just turns out he's an awful person and an awful teammate. When he was traded to the Nats, he tried to strangle Harper in the dugout.
Didn't Byung-hyun Kim once scape his knuckles on the mound because his submarine delivery was so submarine?
this was a chad bradford story from moneyball i believe
He was so electric before the league figured him out. Another guy: Jose Valverde
There are so many wholesome flavors of this. Got the news about Ozzy Osborne today and I called up an old friend to Remember Some Guys. It was nice.
Lee Gutterman
Remember Joe Borowski?
Derek Turnbow
Mark Eichorn Steve Bedrosian The Angels' Lee Smith -to- Troy Percival -to- Frankie Rodriguez closer arc
Ruben Quevado
I am by no means a dude but let me tell you that one of the bigger follower jumps happened when I started posting about the Portland Trailblazers. And they’re people that INTERACT. When Dame re-signed with Portland it was a banner day for Blazers Bluesky. 🤣
Well, now I'll follow you too.
Remembering Some Guys is as old as the oral tradition across cultures - can we get back to the ancient ways (Some Guys not being divided between storytelling and sports )
Technically a closer but Fernando Rodney. 74 IP in his age 35 season and a 0.60 ERA
And for the record I don’t care if he wasn’t obscure enough or whatever, I was 7 that year and I still remember his name, that’s how impressive it was
I like to RSG on the Bad Boys Pistons teams.
i always liked how the most non-Bad Boy, Joe Dumars, rebuilt another Bad Boys team to win another title
I really like to remember those guys too
I had a "Dennis 'The Worm' Rodman" t-shirt when I was 4. He was my favorite player, or one of them, anyway. By the 2000s, I didn't follow basketball much anymore, but having been a fan of his made the news about him even more surreal than it already was. Fascinating guy to remember.
Gerald Henderson James Edward’s Things of that nature
my husband is a detroiter and many a time in our marriage have i taken a look at his laptop and he's watching like "pistons bad boys highlight compilation part 28" it's very endearing!
Mark Aguirre!
took the kids to the Basketball Hall of Fame when we were visiting my parents and there were so many great Guys there to remember
Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson
That’s one of the best guys to remember
I don't even watch basketball anymore but I remember those Vinnie Johnson shots that were so flat that they were damn near 90 degrees, yet somehow swished through without touching the rim.
Phil Coke
Antonio “El Pulpo” Alfonseca
And RSG is adjacent to so many hobbies. Carlsen or Kasparov? Nureyev or Baryshnikov? Sutherland, Leontyne Price, Maria Callas? Could Fellini do Leone? It's great
Gary Glover and JP Howell
Leo Gomez
Brady Anderson Tim Salmon
liberals love sports, like some conservatives are lgbtq.
Mark Wohlers - happily remembering Yankee fan
Paul Assenmacher
Wally Joyner Chili Davis
Carlos Almanzar (aka Carlos All-Men-Score)
This is tangentially related to the beef I have with automatic umpires and replay. Takes all the humanity out of the game. Arguing about sports is half the reason sports are fun. The what ifs? And if only's? Make up a huge percentage of classic sports talk and RSG
Nobody would remember Armando Gallaraga's perfect game if they'd gone to video review and corrected it. It would have ended in a cold, official announcement and everyone would have moved on. What transpired after is another aspect of what makes sports great: the humanity of it all.
On a RSG tangent, I will die on the hill of “Cedric Ceballos cheated during the 92 dunk contest, robbing Larry Johnson of the title”
If anyone wants to talk about Eagles rotational defensive tackle Sam Rayburn, I'm down.
Joe Orsulak
Fave oriole as a kid. He had a cannon
I was also a huge Mike Devereaux fan
With Steve Finley!
Storm Davis
alan embree
larry andersen and danny darwin
Deep cut!
Johnny Calison, Richie Allen, Cookie Rojas.
Charles Nagy (1997 World Series, Game 7)
Does arguing about the best facial hair in relief pitching count? Because I’m always curious who will be foolish enough to act like anyone is coming for Rollie Fingers’ crown.
Dickie Thon
Mark Bavaro. Lifelong Washington fan here. Absolutely *hated* that guy as a kid because he always lit us up. Man, he was good.
Can't talk old Giants without mentioning Joe Morris, Ottis Anderson, and the legend that is Phil Mcconkey.
Having been on the verge of punching a hole in the wall watching Felix Bautista nearly blow the save yesterday, I'm here for discussing relief pitching.
Also, players nicknames! Looking at you, JD, the real deal, Durbin. Cc: Ryan mad dog Madson
Turk Wendell!
Loved his fascination with 99, even on his contracts
And that necklace
Mike Timlin: great sinker and slider. 4 rings!
Hellyeah. He always reminded me of Gary Cooper for some reason
Tall, square jaw, good hair. I can see it.
lol
Pete Incaviglia Lee Mazzili Dan Quisenberry
Inky! And his platoon-mate, Milt Thompson! Key members of the impossible '93 Phils!
PETE INCAVIGLIA! My college roommate and I used that as our name whenever we went to a pizza place where they announced your name to come pick up your pie at the counter. "Pizza for Pete Incaviglia!" We did it maybe 50 times over four years and it never got old.
The man once hit a ball *through* the outfield wall
Brendan Ryan
Stan “the Steamer” Smyl Dave “Tiger” Williams Dennis Vervegaart Dennis Kearns Ken “Spider” Lockett If anyone can guess the common feature for these Guys I’ll be impressed, although the first one might give it away.
Especially bad relief pitching
Especially bad relief pitching that blows a beautiful 2-1 ninth inning lead after a fun 2:15 in the summer sunshine
Rangers fan of a certain age. Make that 8-6 in the ninth after a sweltering 3:15 in the Arlington heat.
This brings me back to having to bring a towel to sit on at The Temple
maybe a Sunday night with Jerry Don Gleaton on the bump
IIRC Jerry Don predates me by a few years. But I have plenty of memories of sitting on the metal bleachers at Arlington Stadium on Sunday afternoons/evenings for baseball and a concert (Oak Ridge Boys, Beach Boys, etc.)
buddy groom
mike timlin
Radhames Dykhoff
Trevor Hoffman was the business growing up in San Diego. Hells Bells walkout music and everything.
As long as I am alive and there is an Internet I will be posting about Sam Cassel
Big Balls!
Scott Scudder
Willie Hernandez
Andrew Miller Robb Nen
This liberal guy likes sportsball! My Brewers are atop the NL and fueling with the division rival Cubbies -- very exciting stuff! (I do wish going to games were less pricey, this would make it somewhat less Republican-coded. But that's not disdain for the game.)
Kids today will never understand how Larry Andersen was a fantasy league winning player in 1990
Twice in one week I get to drop the name Tony Fossas - yay 80s-90s Red Sox pain time
El Gapo
Grew up an angels fan and watched jim abbot play. He was amazing to watch
Brad Brach
Bob Wickman (Bob Thiccman)
My dad recently give me a poster of Hideki Okajima that I’m pretty sure he’d been keeping in storage since 2008.
David Segui
Casey Candaele
His mom played ball in the league they based A League Of Their Own on!
David Segui’s father Diego pitched (I think only player to) for both the Seattle Pilots and Seattle Mariners. He was also good friends with MLBer Jose Tartabull and was Godfather to his son, MLBer Danny Tartabull. Seems like it’s time for Let’s Remember Some MLB sons and parents!
I think you mean "Montreal Expos Legend™️" David Segui.
And he hit the shortest home run in Big O history!
Definitely agree, though talking about Phillies relief pitching would have me spiralling
Thing of beauty.
I’m on a discord where we do the baseball immaculate grid everyday and it is the highlight of my morning. Just a bunch of middle aged guys talking about Dale Murphy and Lou Whitaker.
Joe Borowski
Storm Davis Carney Lansford Terry Steinbach Dave Henderson Luis Polonia
Don Baylor Mike Gallego Walt Weiss Rick Honeycutt Lance Blankenship
Bob Welch Ron Hassey Gene Nelson Curt Young
Zack Greinke and his speed-limit-following-fastball
It’s fun how I can remember Philadelphia Flyers 3rd-line players from 1997 but I can barely name anyone in the league today A testament to how deeply invested kids get into sports or maybe also a testament to how much Gary Bettman screwed up the NHL since the 1990s
The Legion of Doom/Broom 😔
Janne Niinimaa
Hell yeah. Trent Klatt.
My knowledge of late-90s Flyers Guys (outside of Lindros/Leclair) has been exhausted, so I’m just gonna go a different direction and say Ziggy Palffy
Because thinking of Shjon Podein makes you less angry than Morgan Frost?
I remember going to school in 2000 after the fifth overtime playoff win against the Pens ended at 2:30 AM
Denny Neagle
I feel like so many problems boil down to dudes getting together less than they used to. Like it was pretty universal that dudes would meet up at least weekly for Something before. When dudes are able to talk rationally in person most of the crazies can actually reconsider their shitty beliefs
Or best drummers in X genre.
Remembering Some Guys: musical edition
Ed Vande Berg.
remember El Mago on that championship team? he's had some ups and downs since then but man, when he was at the top of his game with the Cubbies he was a joy to watch. the most electrifying guy in Chicago sports since Devin Hester, IMO - you never could tell when he was going to just take off.
Mark Melancon
Alan Trammell
Bill Lee
Mark Bellhorn. Coco Crisp. Izzy Alcantara
Coco Crisp was an all-time top tier baseball name. great fielder, too bad he couldn't hit (didn't even get JBJ super streaks).
JJ Putz
The words “Bobby Ayala” just entered my brain for the first time in at least a decade and now I need to do some breathing exercises.
Who doesn't love talking about edgardo alfonzo and tanyon sturtze?
Bernie Kosar? The Fridge? John Matusak?
Icky Woods!
Tom "Terminator" Henke
matt forte
do you wanna remember a Guy for the 200th episode of Remember That Guy?
Y'all remember Augie Ojeda? Now that is a real baseball name.
Dan Uggla Antonio Alfonseca Corey Koskie Hank Blalock
The act of simply naming random baseball players from the 80s/90s feels *amazing* Frank Viola George Bell Chris Sabo Delano DeShields Jermaine Dye Gary Gaetti See?
My childhood was shaped by watching the Cubs in the 80s, despite growing up in Houston, because WGN was the only channel not showing soap operas during the summer.
Steve Sax!
Ryne Sandberg 👊
Oh man George Bell. That outfield with Barfield and Moseby was so fun.
I think Bell was the first player I had any awareness of as a kid. Also: The Crime Dog, Fred McGriff (best nickname in sports?)
KC really denied that team a spot in the sun. But all for the best, I suppose, as it paved the way for 92-93. Alomar for McGriff made it happen.
Tony Fernandez and Joe Carter were part of that trade too! Loved Fred and Tony - but the team obviously transformed under Joe and Robbie.
And we got Tony back for 93!
Hell yeah we did. That man was smooth as hell at shortstop
God he twisted up at the plate, but it worked
Haha I copied Kelly Gruber's batting stance for a season or 2. It didn't go so well.
Marquis Grissom
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Tim Raines
Rock! Expos!
Hell yeah
www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbdf...
Man, I remember Gaetti getting crapped on because he had a Bible verse on his glove. Seems so innocent now.
And Chris Sabo had sweet goggles that I thought were cool so I also wore them for a spell as a tiny minor leaguer, though I had zero vision issues at the time.
*wonder if this works for basketball players* Cliff Robinson Shawn Kemp Vernon Maxwell Bernard King
Steve "don't call me Scottie" Scheffler
Xavier McDaniel
Yup, it works for basketball players too
muggsy bogues
Fat Lever
George Brett Willie Wilson Bret Saberhagen
Glenallen Hill
Zane Smith Greg Gagne Kevin Elster Bob Tewksbury Glenallen Hill Ron Karkovice Yeah that does feel pretty damn good
*Delino
I have bad memories of Delino. The Dodgers traded Pedro to the Expos for him and it’s too painful
That trade seems....one sided.
There were concerns about his long term health due to his slight build and Tommy didn’t think he’d be more than a middle reliever. But even back then fans were completely confused. We had the 3 Martinez brothers, Ramon, Pedro and Jesus (who never stuck in the majors)
Boof Bonser
Mark Gubicza

true story! I had no idea Shiv was Rice Truck Guy, we just started talking about Tennis Guys in some random thread on here shortly after he joined and immediately recognized kindred spirits in each other phenomenal way to make friends
mark philippousis
anyone remember when Mark was on that dating reality show where it was him and half cougars and half "kittens?" Life after tennis is so weird for the extremely good but never great.
Watching the 30 for 30 on Pete Rose, I would enjoy a 30 for 30 on Aaron Krickstein's post-tennis life.

Nicolás Lapentti.
folks, I woke up today in kind of a bad mood because we're back from vacation and I'm having a hard time readjusting to the time zone and I have to go back to work today and now I have a bunch of people naming Guys in my mentions and a big smile on my face Remembering Some Guys: It Works
Ask your pals whose batting stance you should encourage your kid to imitate. I was thinking Chuck Knoblauch as a goof, and before I could even say it my buddy said Julio Franco
Jesus Christ, you're totally right
Omar Moreno, Mickey Rivers, John Stearns
Dave Magadan v Ricky Jordan should have been the 1B rivalry the northeast deserved in the late 80s/early 90s
I still chuckle every time I remember this. 😁 bsky.app/profile/rinc...
If I'm feeling down or anxious, my wife will literally ask me if I've remembered some guys recently. Always works.
my friends and I can get into a huge argument, not talk for months and then Remembering Some Guys starts and we're back to normal. It's the best.
*delightedly* remember Dick Mountain?
Rich Hill isn't Dick Mountain, it's Gold Mine
One of Larry Craig's most-favorite MLB players.
Oh gdi
Bobson Dugnut in shambles.
AHAHAHAHA I haven't thought of that in AGES. HAHAHAHAH
Baseball names are some of the best names. Also this picture is still amazing.
There was also a German soccer player called Steffan Kuntz. He was part of the German team that won Euro 96, and scored against England in the semis.
Honestly, a thing me and a friend did was we kept shooting even more amazing baseball player names at each other. And we started with Randy Johnson.
this made me realize that i met most my friends through a similar “remembering bands” process
Sometimes I’ll throw out a Remember Some Guys prompt when I’m stuck in an airport and the crowd on Bluesky always delivers, it’s fantastic

Not enough talk about Mendoza-Nelson-Rivera
And Mike Stanton having an absolute rubber arm. Most teams would kíll for that pen
Boeringer Holmes Weathers Lloyd
Graeme Lloyd going fucking nuts in the fight versus the O’s
Which happened soon after the Perfect game by Wells. Regular Season Yankee Stadium was never more intimidating. Most guys on that team didn’t even have their best seasons but collectively they kicked so much ass.
Jeff Nelson Jose Mesa
One of the more entertaining episodes of Big Bang Theory had Sheldon sitting with Bernadette's father watching football and commenting on it with (in the show's world) surprising knowledge.
Former Billings Mustang Trevor Hoffman
I worked with a guy who played ball in Billings. I asked him what there was to do when not playing ball. He said screw and drink beer but not necessarily in that order.
He's not wrong. Especially back in the day, Billings has a really good food scene right now though.

Works for movies and music too. You can get dudes talking for thirty minutes about who did the theme songs for various 80's TV shows.
My circles are nerds so I say Magic card names (then I go talk about baseball with the other butches)
David DeJesus
Had an uncle who could tell you anything about PA college football players from ~1950-2000, down to who played center for Pitt and nosegaurd for Penn State in 1955 along with some story about how their families hated each other from some two-generations ago stolen girlfriend back in Poland.
Can't beat the deep lore.
I mean we are literally friends because of the RSG industrial complex
Spike Owen
Calvin Schiraldi
It's more fun in context but yeah
I’m getting increasingly bad at Remembering Some Guys, but Shoutout to Santana Moss
CHRIS COOLEY
My friend was a big Washington fan when I was learning about football in 2008 or so. I wisely chose Baltimore, but I still enjoyed those teams.
Calvin Schiraldi
My son & I recently bought some old unopened baseball card packs from the early '80s through early '90s. Enjoyed opening them, Telling him about a few of the players. Kept a couple. I didn't need so many loose baseball cards & offered them to a guy at the Y that I occasionally talk to. He accepted.
The way he delighted in going through & telling me about some of the players he watched, rooted for, even met a few of them was amazing! He was so excited. We shared so many stories about our favorite baseball players from childhood & other baseball memories, I didn't even have time to work out.
