Everything that has happened in American politics and media since the reelection of Obama has been the one million wealthiest shitty white guys throwing a tantrum and then building an information bubble to tell them they're still the smartest and best and everything they do is great.
I think it goes back as far as when Obama won the primary in 2008. There were several instances of McCain trying to talk his own voters down from their rhetoric. Though I would also say that 9/11 probably did a lot of the prep work for their psychotic break.

I think there’s a reasonable argument that lots of things are atrocities that we should condemn and also not genocide, which is a fairly specific thing Which is basically how I feel, but also “it’s not genocide, just various other war crimes” doesn’t feel like a very worthwhile debate to have
