He's been a plagiarist for long enough that he could have picked up a new skill and been good enough at it to get some clout. Entitled and lazy, dangerous combination.
You aren't wrong but the continued attempts strike me as something pathological. I have no sympathy for him, but I can't help but think it's a little interesting that he just keeps doing it.
I agree, he has some pathological desire to be famous and respected. He feels entitled to it, and it's really hard to feel sympathy for someone who cannot and will not self reflect on what that means and how that makes him behave. It is darkly fascinating though.
