the thing is, they have in fact had success during that exact time period the 2006 midterms were won, in large part, on "look at how fucking corrupt these motherfuckers are" the information environment is much worse than it was in 2006, but it's a winning argument!

that's what makes me upset about anti-corruption voters going for MAGA because of "EVERYONE IS CORRUPT" when yes, corruption is a problem and voting for the corrupt because he's saying what you feel isn't gonna fix it.
