the funniest and most likely outcome here is that these people pay Eric Adams a pile of money in order for Cuomo to get obliterated anyway
the funniest and most likely outcome here is that these people pay Eric Adams a pile of money in order for Cuomo to get obliterated anyway
lol—🎯.🤣
I wish someone would pay me not to run. I have about as much chance of winning as he does, and I've lived in the city for over 15 years
They should be trying to give Sliwa the seven-figure job. Unlike Adams, Sliwa is polling in double digits.
I hate saying this, but Sliwa has more integrity than either Adams or Cuomo (it’s a low fucking bar, but that’s where the bar is) and probably cannot be bribed.
I think you're right. He also seems to have far fewer donors in common with Trump than either Cuomo or Adams.
Maybe that’s why he didn’t want trump’s job offer.
They should tell him he won and set up a fake mayor's office for him to sit in so he can hold press conferences about popular knapsacks with many locations for the rest of time
If you're Adams in this scenario how are you not immediately saying yes and hanging up the phone before they can change their mind.
Idk what other countries are like and I know our anti corruption laws are laughable but "one candidate's supporters openly plot to bribe another candidate" feels like it should be a major scandal and not a built-in feature of politics.
Take that money, pay your fair share of taxes, have a better city for everyone… No?
Also it's adams. Sure we all know he'll take a bribe, but will he then REALLY step away or pocket it and go "Fuck it I'm still in" I do hope they do this and he turns that way because holy shit funny.
Someone is going to send a bag of chips filled with money to the Cuomo campaign. These clowns just trying to out-bribe each other so they can lose by 20 instead of 30.
I'm hoping Adams somehow crashes some billionaire's super yacht, and there's video footage
Adams is a real-life Rob McKenna from 'So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish' but with the twist that he is a god of corruption instead of rain
Adams knows they were lowball offers and they will offer something better because he rejected the first offers. He knows he has the negotiating leverage right now.
This scenario is in the dictionary under the definition of don’t threaten me with a good time.
Not reported but the job offered is that he's going to play the role of Ed McMahon on Chris Cuomo's news show
They’re already chucking cash at Cuomo to barely run and alienate voters when he actually campaigns.
I'm a center-left squish and not a Mamdani guy as such but at this point I'd vote for him twice if I lived in NYC and could get away with it. However unwise I consider some of Mamdani's policy proposals Cuomo continues to suck and this stuff is gross and undemocratic.
I think we would all love that for them.
Less funny but maybe more consequential is how much these guys are doing propaganda for American Socialism, by treating Mamdani and the growing DSA as existential threats they’re sending a message to the alienated masses that these are the anti-establishment populists you’ve been looking for
People severely underestimated just how much the three men hate each other.
And, once again, Adams is currently mayor. He HAS a job, and by the time he doesn’t, Cuomo will have already lost, whether Adams drops out or not.
They both deserve each other. Corrupt mother fuckers.
I support this outcome
Adams doesn’t get out of bed for anything less than 30,000 Turkish Airline frequent flyer miles
It's kinda cathartic watching the neolibs destroying their electoral chances instead of the actual left for a change
Cuomo and Adams combined are polling lower than Mamdani, Adams dropping out wouldn't help
Imagine being so desperate that you'd give Eric Adams a job
In any case, if I'm Adams I'd have to be worried about exactly where I'd be working after it's all over.
Istanbul probably
It'd be equally funny if Adams' hubris disallows him from bowing out of the race and it makes Coumo lose worse.
bsky.app/profile/matr...
I'm on board with that except for the part where Eric Adams gets a pile of money instead of a decade or two in prison for corruption.
Cuomo acting more like Trump every day.
the Siena poll out today had Mamdani at 46, with Cuomo at 24 and Adams at 16, so he’s already losing by 6 even if he picks up every Adams voter (he won’t) and I don’t know if you’ve all noticed but Mamdani is good at campaigning and can probably make an issue out of “Adams got bribed to drop out”
But are we absolutely sure that Adams is capable of being bribed or influenced? Perhaps he just has strong moral standing!
also, we've got about a week before the names get locked in onto the ballot, so things should move quickly if something is going to happen
Yeah, the best anti-Mamdani number from that poll was for a hypothetical two-person race with Cuomo (48 Mamdani–44 Cuomo), but good luck getting Sliwa to drop out too
Does the general also have ranked choice? Is it possible a round 2 or 3 coalition of the Adams/Silwa voters might lift Cuomo?
No, general election does not have ranked choice
No, ranked choice is only for primary or special elections
In this case.... nice.
And both he and Adams stay on the ballot at this list date regardless, so that's probably a couple of points each even if they did say they're dropping out.
Very minimal though. I thought that about buttigieg and klobuchars "ghost vote" in 2020 after they dropped out but it was minimal
Excellent point
He's got two days to take the deal and be removed from the ballot, so we'll see!
Sliwa is thankfully far too much of a character to ever drop out
100%
Wow, that is a very NYC apartment
Ha! You're so right
the size of my phone screen and my less than perfect vision makes it hard to tell, but does his new life with 15 cats also involve a wall covered in hagiographic depictions of himself?
The man's Wikipedia page is a wild ride, with everything from assassination attempts to participation in eating contests.
Does it include the fact that his ex-wife is now married to former Democratic governor David Paterson, who took over after Elliot Spitzer's scandals?
oh, it's in there.
Wow that body language (on Linda Evers?) says a lot. Really looks like she’d rather be anywhere else, and far the fuck away from him.
*Lisa and just realized you said that first name in the alt text
His feral cat plan to deal with the rats it’s pretty funny
Shit, Adams is too much of a character to drop out. They seemed to forget 2/3rds of Mamdani's opponents are fucking weirdos with huge egos
it continues to amuse me greatly that silwa is someone nobody talks about except in a comedic or dismissive way. not that i think this is wrong, it's just funny.
Also, Sliwa’s voters, call it a quarter of the electorate, absolutely hate Cuomo. Sure, some will hold their noses and vote for him but a lot won’t
Adams getting bribed to drop out is especially bad for Cuomo's attempts to brand himself as the candidate who can stand up to Trump, too. "I'm the fighter NYC needs against the guy who's currently helping my campaign" is... not a winning message.
yeah it feels like anyone who still supports Adams, is likely: a) just going on who is currently mayor, won't help Cuomo b) maybe some residual support from Black organizations? I'm not sure but not impossible. Have no reason to switch to Cuomo c) is just not paying attention at all, who knows
Let's not rule out the 8% of the city that is somehow on the take and/or give with the Adams admin and needs him to win to stay out of jail.
I did not include "people who are personally part of some Adams' grift" because I don't think that's a large enough number to swing anything, but they definitely exist!
Every day I realize it's a larger number than I thought!
I think Trump also clearly knows that it doesn't really matter if Adams drops out. He could just reactivate the frozen corruption charges against Adams and immediately book him if he really wanted him to clear out for Cuomo. Instead he'd rather possess Adams as another disgraced Dem clown.
The charges were dismissed with prejudice so while he could probably make some considerable trouble for Adams he can't just resurrect the existing case. One of the only good outcomes from that shitshow is it didn't leave Adams completely beholden to Trump.
I thought that they had specifically avoided dropping the charges in a way that would prevent them starting the case back up if Adams didn't hold up his end of the deal. Maybe the bad press from the initial corrupt deal made them dismiss them with prejudice?
They tried, the judge wasn't having it: "A critical feature of DOJ’s Motion is that it seeks dismissal without prejudice... Rather, its request, if granted, would leave Mayor Adams under the specter of reindictment at essentially any time, and for essentially any reason"
"The Court declines, in its limited discretion under Rule 48(a), to endorse that outcome."
Order here. It's pretty explicit about the level of corruption the he thought was involved. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
Maybe I am wrong but I also feel like as people get to know the candidates - Mamdani can only go up and I think Cuomo is likely already at his ceiling...
That's also one of the cases where you can also read that two ways. Mamdani is said to be super-popular, when he's facing three idiots and he can't even crack 51%, that's not the definition of 'super popular' most people would interpret there even if it is technically true.
It also at least partially accounts for why the Excel nerds running the Dem caucus are playing it as soft-handed as they are with the NYC Mayor race, they're doing the math and seeing it just like that.
What's even more hilarious is that Adams doesn't look like he's dropping out. So you get all of the downsides of Trump bribing Adams to help Cuomo without any of the benefits. (And it make Adams look like he has more integrity than Cuomo).
They did include a 1v1 between cumuo and mamdani. Mamdani still won by 2
issuing a correction here: this is an even stupider idea than I first thought
If anyone wants to give me money I’ll also drop out of the race
Which is why it should be encouraged. I will even bet that Adams doesn't even get his money or his job after Cuomo loses.
Hard to believe that there are republicans so die hard that they’ll vote for Sliwa AGAIN
Jim Walden should have held out longer
Ironically, Walden dropping out is when most people found out he was running in the first place
Wow
I got a text yesterday from Adams cronies/super pac that somehow Cuomo and Trump are conspiring to make Adams the Saudi ambassador. Yeah, it didn’t make sense to me either.
Oh Adams already said no to that lol
As if he'd be ambassador to anywhere but Turkey
Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest with his duties as the Turkish ambassador to New York?
Conflict of Interest is his middle name
I thought it was Eric Swagger Adams
Yeah they’d need to get sliwa to drop out too, which won’t happen because Curtis Sliwa is a fucking mad man. And they’d still lose anyways.
The Hellgate reporters were talking about this and Sliwa’s comment that the only way he’s leaving is in a coffin. One of them interviewed a buddy of his who was like “Curtis Sliwa can’t work a real job” and there’s nothing they could bribe him with. He’s just doing it for the love of the game. Lol
Hilariously, it was Sliwa at 15. Adams was at 9
When Sliwa is polling higher, you know you're cooked.
and curtis has already established that he can't be bought
Starting an NYC mayoral write in campaign for my free bribe.
Sliwa vacuuming up the Bay Ridge/Deep Staten Island Vote still keeps Cuomo 15 precious points away from Mamdani.
Eric Adams is the luckiest motherfucker alive, all his corruption and incompetence blows up in his face just to get directly cancelled out by people more corrupt and incompetent.
