I hate the tone of tacit acceptance that deploying troops is an acceptable crime-fighting tactic. Intimidating people into staying home will reduce crime, but the price we pay is freedom. That should be a non-starter.

If you ask people to stay home because of a disease, that's an assault on their freedom. If you make people afraid to leave their house because of armed troops in their city, that's just good governance.
