I'm always nonplussed when an actor who I'd decided didn't have talent suddenly shows it. Like, I always thought Hugh Dancy was a low-budget Hugh Grant... but then he did Hannibal. Same with Taron Egerton, and then boom! Rocket Man. It's like "do I have to re-evaluate my entire opinion of you? ugh"
I remember thinking this about Robert Pattinson, then in recent years it's just been phenomenal acting from him. Same with Colin Farrell in the early 00s, then he did In Bruges which was incredible and has done some smashing performances since, Penguin was outstanding.
I always thought Pattinson was kind of too good for Twilight, but I never suspected he had the depth in him that he's shown the last few years, yeah.
It's even worse when there's an actor I really dislike... enough to go on my list of "I will probably not see a movie with this actor in it"... and then they go and do something amazing? How can *Will Ferrell* be in Stranger Than Fiction, one of my all time faves? HOW?! It's so wrong.

the fact it's the same actor from elf and anchorman was legit mind-blowing. and i was like, "wait, i don't want to punch him. i even like the dude. does will ferrell have layers? :O"

Most roles he's in it's just "Tom Cruise as X!" -- but, yeah, every now and again he relaxes and does a turn like, say, in Tropic Thunder and it's annoying because you remember how endearing he actually can be.
Jack Black used to make my eyes twitch... but then he did School of Rock! I sat there afterwards, thinking "do I need to start liking Jack Black now? how can this be?" Then he became popular... and sexy? Alright FINE. And yet now everyone apparently hates him again. I can't keep up.
I was surprised at how much I liked him in the Jumanji movies.
Still need to watch the Jumanji reboots.
They are unapologetically popcorn movies, but surprisingly clever in bits.
I think people might just be tired of him showing up in every video game movie adaptation. I love Jack black because of the holiday and school of rock.
personally i think he's just a bad live actor but good physical actor. i really like him in kung fu panda and mario.

I love being proven wrong about actors that I dislike. It encourages me to look back on their previous work and discover small things I hadn't noticed which one particular performance tapped into. Or to realize there never was anything wrong with them in the first place - just my preconceptions.

After Trump almost got assassinated the first time, the D were doing a show. Also happened to be Kyle's birthday. Brought out a cake on stage, and Kyle made a wish, jokingly saying "Don't miss Trump next time". (1)
Lot of people on the right got angry (you know, the anti-Cancel Culture crowd), KG and JB released corporate apologies and cancelled the rest of the tour. They are however still friends, and the narrative was twisted by the Internet to paint Jack in a negative light. The D will return at some point
