The counter to this is Farage talks about what matters to most British citizens. Gaza is a fringe issue. It doesn't impact many people's lives in the UK.

It's an issue on which the majority of Brits have a strong moral objection, and which would cost the government nothing to reverse course on. The leading issue in the country is the cost of living, and Farage doesn't give a shit about that because the only thing he cares about is being racist.

Well, I say it would cost them nothing. It would cost them bribes.

Asylum-seekers don't impact many people's lives in the UK. So far this year, we've had HALF a premier league football crowd arrive by small boats. That's all. But people believe it's orders of magnitude bigger than that, thanks to politicians and the media.

Small boats are a visible display of a lack of control of our borders.People know they are only a small part of the huge numbers. Politicians had plenty of chances to control the narrative in the media. They talk tough and do very little.

People DON'T know that the small boats are a vanishingly small percentage of total immigration though. If you ask these chumps how many are arriving that way, they will say millions, we are being overrun and invaded by huge groups of 'military aged men' who rape our women and girls.

Even though most sexual aggressors are white brits. Now fartrage has planted the idea, it's only a matter of time until this government are bribing bad acting foreign governments to take back, torture and kill the people who came here for safety.

Is that what you want with 'well controlled borders'?

The small boats aren't visible. How many people have ever seen one in real life? People believe that many 1000s are coming by small boat each day, and they have no idea that immigration overall FELL by 400,000 last year. We already have control over our borders. The whole thing is a giant con.

It 'matters most' because the right leaning media constantly tell them that. What really matters most is quality of life which has been eroded by those peddling this myth.

I think TikTok,X,Facebook and what people share on WhatsApp are far more influential today than The Sun etc.

"What matters most" - recent polls do indeed show it 😞 But I think it is years of manipulation. Recent protests, etc all seem well-coordinated to time with the policy announcement. Opportunism everywhere... bsky.app/profile/glob...

There is no opportunity if immigration is under control.

But is it "out of control"? Or the political framing, narrative has created that perception for opportunistic reasons? Weren't many Brexit supporters from areas with barely any immigration, for example?

You're right, it is after years of manipulation. Farage et al got us here by talking about it for decades, when it *wasn't* polling as as mattering. We won't get away from it by pandering to it. People need to talk about what *actually* matters most. That's what shifts the polls.

Agreed. You reminded me something I wrote YEARS ago: www.globalissues.org/article/537/... "The issue of asylum and immigration is reported [2003] in terms of a threat and invasion despite a lack of statistical evidence supporting such dramatic claims." Palpatine would be proud of this patience...

Just read it, that's a great article. And I think reading it from a 2025 perspective shows both how long it's taken to push this framing to where it is, and also underlines that the approaches taken to countering it over that time have clearly not been effective.
