This a decent person. Both of them are. Establishment dems need to get over themselves.
This a decent person. Both of them are. Establishment dems need to get over themselves.
True, but non-establishment dems need to get over THEMSELVES. We are fighting a war. People bent on the destruction of America are the enemy. Not people who won't endorse an unknown candidate who squeaked out a primary win in a single city mayoral race.
Mamdani rewrote the playbook, and what he's doing is effective. There is a meaningful difference between uncertainty (what you're painting establishment dems as), and being outright hostile to change (what they actually are).
Yes. I didn’t look at it your way. some have been hostile and some ignore him. Either way it’s discounting him which I believe is a mistake.
I haven't heard many being hostile. It simply takes time to build a trust and since the Democratic party has been around for a long time, the burden is on him to earn that trust. I believe he will, but it takes time.
If people want to push ‘vote blue no matter who’ in national politics, then they need to put their money where their mouth is and do the same here. Why is it a big deal if it’s just a ‘single city mayoral election’? Should be a no-brainer to endorse.
True. But we've seen this before in Ocasio-Cortez and others. Even with Senator Obama's run for President. Besides, endorsements are no longer a powerful thing. And remember this stems from his refusal to distance himself from a single jihadist statement.
Yes, we see the one way nature of the loyalty demand all the time; that’s why it is so infuriating to people on the left. Do you think Cuomo would be going through this exercise right now if the Dem establishment had endorsed already? No way. And he never used the so-called ‘jihadist’ statement
I'm not referring to Cuomo. I doubt seriously his narcissistic view of him having a path to victory. His continued candidacy has a better shot of having a Republican mayor.
Yeah, that "jihadist statement" thing is a lie. I tend to discount those who repeat it.
Sorry, but it wasn't. We have video of him saying it, we have video of him admitting it, and we have video of him refusing the opportunity to denounce it. Personally I'm a fan of his, but saying this is a hoax is like believing Trump never met Epstein.
So you should totally delete this now that you realize you misspoke and attributed the wrong words to him and his role in relation to those words, right?
I know you're talking to brianwhiting, but maybe it's best to leave it up to show others that extreme claims can be backed down from.. what do you think? I leave up my mistakes, and my recanting.. for that reason.
I guess he can do whatever he wants, since he’s a grown up. I see your logic, just not sure every reader will get to the part of the thread where he admits he was wrong.
That's the problem when the thread splits. But those who pay attention see that I corrected myself. Still it was not widely covered (or at least outside NYC) where he corrected himself and the intifada is just as alarming to Jews all over the country.
Cause the "jihadist statement" I heard someone say he said, he never said. Maybe yours is different.
www-nbcnews-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.nbcn... I stand corrected, it was "globalize the intifada", not jihad directly.
Or indirectly. As an American Jew I intensely dislike and resent the attempts to make him appear anti-Semitic by twisting his words.
Not trying to make any particular point.. it's just that her certainly about that doubtful 'fact' kind of threw me. And I'm relating it ... just cause I guess. No agenda.
Being in music and arts I know quite a few American Jews ( smarter then the average human, seems to me.. ) They're all over the map as far as I/P issue goes. A very nice and sharp lady I like told me last week the Palestinians aren't native to the Levant, they came from Egypt. I didn't respond.
backing away www.nytimes.com/2025/07/15/b...
You have *a* point, not quite as strong as it seemed. And Mamdani is backing away from it. www.ajc.org/news/this-is...
OK. this is probably the most direct criticism of that phrase, coming from the American Jewish Committee. The piece says the phrase "evokes" anti-Semitic violence. I imagine if the phrase were a proper "jihadist" phrase rather then a popular anti-Israeli repression phrase they would have said so.
Well, if you quote the statement so I can verify for myself.. I'll admit you have a point.
New York is not just your average city?
I was quoting the prior poster.
True enough. But that's what we have to work with.
I agree it should be everywhere. The start with one state may be what is needed to start it everywhere. Not everything can start with a bang. It should but it doesn’t. Fear does that v
Are you from the vicinity? Because he’s not unknown around NY.
No, but he only became known towards the end of the primary. I meant nationally known.
If folks are going to scream blue no matter who, then it needs to be universal. Vote your conscience in the primaries then rally behind the winner in the general election…then push towards moving away from 2 parties, electoral college, gerrymandered districts, and corporate $ driving elections
Preaching to the choir here. But include mandatory voting in that list. The sky won't fall if you actually get the voice of We the People.
always dog pfp with dogshit politics.
We all need to start looking at what we’re doing. Establishment are holding on to what the donors want (mostly AIPAC). I still say they are not listening. Young people want change. I’m old and I want change. The old rule book no longer works. Something different is needed.
Focusing on AIPAC is wrong. Yes, they have a huge influence, but that's because for decades Israel's best interest has been America's best interest. Once Netanyahu is removed (something that was stopped by Hamas starting a war) we can reassess. And change takes time.
Ha he takes time but we don’t have time. I’m not going to sit around and wait for those beholding to their corporate donors while the will of the people are being overlooked. It feels like they just want to be re-elected. For almost 6 months they’ve done not much of anything but talk a lot.
The will of the people is being overlooked because the people refused to voice their opinion. Democrats have not had a means to do anything for the past 8 months. When they held all the power we had the most productive congress in a century. When Republicans had all the power we have this. Remember.
How can one forget. It’s funny Texas dems are showing a spine but the rest only talk. Looks like the blue state governors and AGs will have to do what Congress is not.
From your keyboard to God's ears. I'm in Maryland which is one of the most gerrymandered blue states, but I want our legislature to get rid of the lone Republican seat we have.
If establishment wants to keep getting their money then they need to start with conversations that are meant for the people. Not the blustering they’ve been doing. I’ll keep saying we need to hit the republicans low, hard and often.
Two excellent Democrats who need to bring the establishment Democrats to get it through their thick heads that this direction is what the majority of new, younger & also plenty of older Dems & Indies want. Duh!Duh!Duh‼️
I’d prefer they replace the establishment Democrats
And I think that depends not on their ages but their attitudes & how they performed in the past. I miss Al Franken. I thought he was a really good Dem. The party definitely needs Sens who are passionate & forceful & not afraid to show it. FDR styled compassion, brains & 🔥🔥🔥‼️💙
Says a lot about a party that’s so willing to quickly dispose of a good person so easily.
Hopefully, this will not happen. Long &lengthy consideration MUST be given to any candidate who is not prepared to adopt a new mindset towards the future. It's not going to be easy Main thing is it must be fair. Hopefully those Dems may recognize their own "shortcomings" &offer to step down &ENDORSE
I agree. If we all vote those that are registered democrats and those independents that are now willing to vote Democrat we could replace them and vote in more seats. I think Dems get complacent and hope the other person does it. We’re supposed to be smarter than the republicans. Show it.
People need to run in primaries to unseat these ghouls as well.
💯💯💯🔥🔥
I'm 72, & I want the old farts OUT of there! My God, get out of the f*@#ing way! I've always been a strong Dem, considered myself a Progressive, but after this Big Ugly Bill passed, I now consider myself Dem Socialist. Wish I could vote for Mandami but don't live in NYC
I’m 67 and again I feel exactly as you do. There’s a time and a place for us. The elders should be guiding those that follow. I’ve been a life long Democrat. But again with you I consider myself a socialist Democrat. You and I have lived long enough to know that’s the way to go.
Exactly.
This is the gut feeling I get when I watch him. A decent person. Hard to know what will happen there but I do think he's one of the good ones.
I do also. He leads with empathy and ideas. I’m thinking he’s a start of something good. Cuomo has way too much baggage as does Adams. I’m not from NYC but am hoping this turns into something positive and to be replicated.
I don't live in the US so feel poorly qualified to comment sometimes. But I just feel that he's a decent person who has his city and its people at the heart of what he's doing. Easy to be cynical these days..hope he is how he seems.
These are establishment Democrats. Warren has been a Senator for almost 12 years. Mamdani is a Democrat. Don’t denigrate other Ds just because they aren’t on the Mamdani bandwagon yet. I
I’d say they need to hop on board soon. Less than 20 months to November 2026. Either the party changes how it approaches its constituents or we lose again. I’m calling out those dem politicians that are do or die following the rules. I don’t believe Warren is one.
But Mamdani is only one candidate and he is running for mayor. What don’t ‘establishment Ds’ support that they don’t already support.
It starts with one. It always starts with one anything. Then more follow. Whether it be good or bad. It starts with one. A revolution starts with one.
Unfortunately, Mamdani can’t run for President.
True. But like I said he’s a start. A small one in a big city. People can take encouragement from that and move to like thinking candidates. There are choices. Good choices. We just have to be brave enough to take a chance.
