No, we're saying "before you tell us we have to consider a guy who will tie 10% of people to the trolley tracks to defeat the guy who will tie 50%, how about you consider someone who will tie 0%," and the person above is getting outraged that we'd even have that conversation.
The original quote was that it is bad to treat homeless people in the way that Newsom repeatedly treats them. It is such an insane thing to just dismiss as a lefty purity test. These people need to fix their hearts.
I will add: this *is* heartless, unless unhoused folks are a safe place to go w/ all of their belongings. AND stating absolutely that you won't vote for someone TWO years before the next election shows a fuckton of white privilege. B/c we will *never* suffer more under a fascist regime than BIPOC.
No one is saying that that treatment is good. It's not a "lefty purity test." It's about white people (esp. women who look like me) consistently using ONE issue, often race/gender, to condemn candidates who, on the whole, do good.
Do you realize that only 46% of white women voted for MVP Harris in 2024? White women *absolutely* throw minority populations under the bus in national elections, & they use tactics like, "I can't vote for that person b/c of ONE issue." The people who need to "fix their hearts" are white women.
Yes, he's bad about the homeless. Fortunately, that is not what's he's engaging in rn and unfortunately, you will never find a candidate who is perfect. But you will find many that can be influenced or who are very good in many ways. In the meantime, let's make sure the GOP aren't re-elected.
