Starmer chose to put his ambition for a big economic reset behind the Telegraph paywall. Although his article is full of references to things having to change because circumstances have changed, Brexit doesn't get a look in. Link to archived version of article. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202...

Small correction : My government will demonstrably punish the peasants & hopefully kill them through poverty while making billionaires more billions & not taxing them 😭

The article isn’t meant reveal new policy decisions, it’s meant to prepare people for the announcements of what he’s hinting at “state intervention in the economy”, “new alliances & free trade deals”. I just hope it’s as bold as he’s trying to make it sound!

Starmer wrote that he wants "strengthened alliances and reducing barriers to trade" but even thinking about undoing the damage of Brexit is completely ignored.

What the hell is a senior public servant doing putting their potentially signif. opinion on a sensitive topic behind a commercial paywall? They are already payed to provide thar opinion publicly. What a very Boris thing to do! (another ill portent on Labor's future direction & Starmer's ethics).

It's all Keir Starmer's own words. He gave them his article to publish.

Any article by the PM or a minister should be free to access! That will still let them choose a particular audience. The publication might even get some new subscribers?

Its vacuous Powerpoint boardroom presentation word salad to paper over the absence of any real substance whatsoever. Substance would mean having to confront the Brexit/EU & Trump/trade elephants in the room - which require making a stark choice.

Starmer/Labour cannot sustainably ride both horses on one cheek. They are set to fall right between both of them. Idiocy.

For extra McSweeney-inspired nonsense, “Globalisation has failed but we must continue with the path of neoliberalism… please ignore that large trading bloc just over the channel”. “The oligarchy told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

OK, I’m going to be prepared to go with that argument if there is no improvement after the agreed meeting in May with U von der L, but until then I will just keep my powder dry. I think people forget just how anti-Brexit the country was and for just how long.

Even now many people like the idea of returning to Brexit, but may not like the idea of the new Brexit where we have to join the euro and we have no opt out clauses. Lab is not popular and the party right behind is very much not in favor of rejoining, the EU

There are a number of countries that have joined the EU after the date at which joining countries had to join the Euro but have not done so. I won’t remark on the skill of UK negotiators :) Politicians need to lead, not follow. Current approach drives off the current cliff… faster

For many reasons, economic, social, personal, would love to rejoin. I happen to believe that those that control the “intellectual core” (arf) of current Lab policy are too neoliberal and US-facing to countenance any change. We can get closer, if we are honest about the changed world. If…..

Ah! So having his branch office manager in Scotland, strutting about New York praising Trump, makes sense now. A US trade deal will save the UK economy, not rejoining the EU! Now where have I heard that before...

Starmer has to go. There won’t be any improvement with the EU under his leadership. Appeasement of the USA and the EU can’t happen simultaneously, as trade with one will rule out trade with the other. We need a decision-maker, not a fence sitter. Starmer has to go.

Any prime minister who makes major statements behind a foaming right wing paywall is well to the right of any pre-2015 Tory government. To compound that misconduct by wilfully ignoring the elephant that is not only in the room, but standing on his foot, is cowardice of the highest order.
