I dont think Trump feels he owes anyone from 2016 or any other time. Russia has present day leverage over him. I say this based on his other “agreements” that he routinely ignores. What Russia has is the question. Is Trump Hotel Moscow enough to keep Trump compliant?

My comment was not about Trump's feelings, about which I'm agnostic (and I bet he is as well). It's about the actual details: He is quite literally giving Putin RU's asks from 2016, and I think that is not remotely a coincidence.
