It's a very popular spectator sport up that way. Several pounds are gambled weekly on it. (p.s. don't tell anyone, they don't want it getting popular and them influencers do it for a laff)

I know. I am a Mackem in exile in Liverpool. Wulf Helm and some of the others in the chat are Mags!
I’m a Mackem twice exiled; firstly to North Yorkshire and now the People’s Republic of Glasguensis. Still no place like the north east coast though.
We moved around a lot when I was a child but my grandmother's house in Sunderland was always the "Mother Ship." She died just before our elder son was born. I still have a few relatives there though.
I love it! Childhood spent on the beach! The Industrial Coast!
Me mam’s side were all colliery, so Blackhall to Easington. Mam’s Aunty Nan would pack a picnic and walk the family down to Crimdon beach. She packed corned beef, bread loaf, tinned peaches, vappy, crocks, cutlery the lot! Tiny woman; strength of an ox 😄
😠...... Roll on the derby! 😂 I have to tread carefully on this matter! I'm a Mackem currently residing back in the historical country of Durham!
My wife would never leave Liverpool. She likes Durham city though. The first time she went to the NE was in May and she found it too cold. 🤗
🙄 bloody Southerners.... The countryside... the countryside..... we have masses of it, shed loads of, very different, coastline, history, art, culture, music... Put her on the line.... 😂😂😂
She is a townie!
The coastline is magnificent! Used to live 5 minutes walk from Seaburn, summer days me mam always had us down the beach by 8.30 then away before the mist rolled in. Afternoon it was off to Finchale Priory or Durham.
Yes, I Iove the countryside further North too, near Bamburgh and Alnwick.
Oi oi I'm technically a soft southerner bastard. But actually pure celt. Dinnae fash with southern sissies
"Unless you are fed up with having birthdays!"
This is why people go there. There is a castle and a ruined monastery on the island. There was a brutal raid on the monastery by the Vikings ("Danes") in 793 A. D. Wulf Helm has never forgiven them for this and it is basically why he still hates the Danes! fotospot.co.uk/uk-locations...
Richmond Twickenham and various other tidal parts of the Thames are good for that Putney especially
