In my experience, most journalists have normalized Trump in their own mind. They see him as just another republican like W. They don't really believe he can/will do fascism. They think he's crass and declasse and ineffective but not actually dangerous.
Best of both worlds, innit? I get to keep all my privilege by not actually DOING anything and risking it, but I get to burnish my credentials at the parties. They hate poasters because they see themselves soooooo clearly in that ugly reflection. The OG Keyboard Warriors who don’t do anything.
The discussion around his word choice (the F word) brought more shock and awe than….mature criticism. They enjoy the hype and hysteria too much to do real journalism it seems….sigh.
