Been off Twitter for a couple of years now and I don't miss it. A friend who remains on there told me that during the Zohran Scavenger Hunt the posts there were UNHINGED. And no matter who you are, it seeps into you. It coarsens you and you don't even notice until you leave.

I’ve been off it for two years and don’t even think about it until someone mentions it. I know it exists like I know 4-Chan exists with no desire to ever check it out or subject myself to it.

I know people who won’t leave because they are addicted to the chaos and/or still believe they have “reach”. I don’t miss it. It’s exhausting.

Hate is a disease and like all disease, they burn in the light. Embrace the sun, the air, and the people around you and watch the hate wash away like dirt in the rain

My mental health seriously improved in the weeks after I deleted all my tweets and peaced out of that place.

my attitude and level of creativity have increased just from leaving twitter, tiktok and Instagram. a smaller echo chamber is nice actually. i do sometimes feel like I'm in argument recovery though.

Left in 2024 and I have literally not missed the levels of irritation I got being on that app in the last two years

I had a sociology profesor explain after the 2016 election exactly why it’s not worth the effort to try argue through text based communication on social media. Haven’t tried to argue in earnest with anyone since then, but even so it feels much better not seeing Nazi comment after Nazi comment here.

It's my firm policy not to argue with strangers on the internet. I'm better for it.

It absolutely impacts you. And like I said, you don't see it until you step away.

Really good points. I left in November, just after the [s]election and noticed within a few days that I was much less angry. I tend not to engage with rage-baiting or baiting in general, but seeing it everywhere over there does bring changes to your psyche, and not good ones.

Yep. Who we hang out with contributes to who we are and our perception of everything. We're social creatures, we exist in contexts/cultures and they very much shape who we are and how we experience the world. People don't think about mental and emotional hygiene, they should cause shit's contagious!

I stepped away from it years ago at this point (around ~2021? 🤔) and it has been super beneficial to my mental health ✨ even though I wasn't necessarily engaging with people I didn't know? Not seeing a lot of the anger and vitriol toward me or other friends has been wonderful 😌💖

Like getting out of the car after a really long stressful commute only to realize your hands hurt from gripping the steering wheel so hard. That's what it felt like leaving Twitter in 2023.

Fully agreed. People think they can tank it and they're wrong. Being more aware of our limitations and vulnerabilities to manipulation has got to be one of the main themes of this coming time if we have any hope to maintain our humanity
