One one hand I’m looking forward to finishing my root canal tomorrow so that I’m not walking around w an open tooth. On the other hand I’m dreading my mouth being cranked open again for a lengthy period

If you don't already, ask them for a bite block -- it means you don't have to tense your jaw so much to keep it open! (They have to use a kids' size for me, because my jaw muscles are so tight, but it helps a TON.)
