I like that Kirk Douglas seems to have been cowed by Mitchum’s presence and chill into softening his usual jaw clenchy scenery chewing but I think Whit actually might have made more sense as a character if he were a more overtly nutty / unhinged #OutOfThePast #TCMParty

And Douglas hadn’t found his niche in his early movies. He was good at playing the nerd or tough guys who weren’t so tough.
It’s like he couldn’t resist the macho challenge instead of, you know, acting #TCMParty
