The "Least Healthy Foods" top box is still pushing the idea that all fats are bad (some are, most aren't). Sugar and salt are definitely bad. But contrary to popular belief, low-fat diets have never been shown to improve heart health.
According to this, I’m doing very well. I’m fortunate that I can afford healthier choices.
And have the time to prepare them, the part that few of these good food/bad food lists ever acknowledge
Very true
The chart has an abbreviation I don't understand, "HFSS".
HFSS is an acronym for High in (saturated) Fat, Salt, and Sugar.
I feel like I should have been able to figure this out...now that I know... Thank you for answering my question.
Maple syrup is bad? Pure maple syrup is bad?
I suppose if you eat it by the pint
It is mostly sucrose with a few percent glucose and fructose.
Very handy explainer. Thanks Doc.
Isn’t “added sugar, fat and salt is bad” a lot cleaner and more accurate than talking about a kinda poorly defined “ultra processed” foods?

Of course, UPFs are often less expensive than the more healthy alternatives. Cost often determines what people buy.
