Then, he could have just said, ‘yes, more cops on the streets would be helpful, but I don’t know about 5000.’ Seriously, Johnson’s inability to answer the question or deflect it without appearing soft on crime should be a concern. It is exactly the kind of squirrelly response that turns off voters.
