Well, this is obviously not the hill I’m gonna die on, but my recollection is the sentiment going *overwhelmingly* the other way – like, “wtf is this band whose records you can order through MRR doing on MTV?”.
I wish that had been the case—and among the folks who were aware of punk distros and alternative record stores, it probably was! But that context didn't automatically travel with the song, at least not in more "normie" networks. As an adjacent example, I don't think this book ever got a US edition.
I suspect that would be sentiment among people plugged in to MRR...but by definition that's already outside the mainstream.
