are we living in the resurgence of reddit atheism
The Reddit atheism is like the Christian conversion that people complain about. Like someoneβs religious beliefs are for them to decide alone.
I got over my edgy atheist phase a decade ago when I was 16. Still kinda wince over how much of it was just unexamined bigotry towards other religious backgrounds. it's wild to see people decades older than me with large online presences reveal they've gone through less character growth
still an atheist, just not, a dick about it yfeel
wasnt sure at first but fair
kinda sth you have to get over yourself about when you live in a country that is escaping the cycle of inter communal violence (peace process in the Muslim-majority south since 2014)
my theory is now that cruel christianity has "won" in the US, people are looking for new and novel reasons to be a prick, going in and out in cycles following the dominant ideals in the US-dominated cultural sphere
Yeah that tracks. Unfortunately what ends up happening is folks raging against the dominance of those cruel strains of faith end up punching on much less justifiable targets like progressive Judaism or minority Muslims, something I saw even back then,
i mean regardless of who you are people are going to hate the other - antisemitism and islamophobia are almost always there - same targets, different rational.
Yyea
I remember cringe atheism before Reddit was even a thing "Something something back in my day", the dawn of Facebook and stupid atheist posting. I turned vaguely spiritual with a better understanding of what like, parts of the Bible actually intend, but I still dislike most organized religious groups
